New thinking, new delivery models, new funding structures
New delivery models
The housing crisis is one of the most pressing economic issues facing the UK today. If a solution is to be found, it will require some radical new thinking. Local Partnerships partnered with City & Financial Global for this event. 100 delegates attended the summit to hear leading industry experts including Councillor Keith House, Leader of Eastleigh Borough Council, and Andy Rose, Chief Executive of the Homes and Communities Agency, explore the Government’s plans for how best to increase the supply of new housing in the UK market.
Our chief executive, Judith Armitt, spoke about how devolution and the rise of city regions will affect housing delivery. The Government’s target of building an additional one million homes over the rest of this Parliament and the pledge to deliver an additional 200,000 starter homes by 2020 will only be achieved if councils play a full part in delivery through partnerships and by building on their own account. The private sector alone will not deliver on the scale required. Local councils are now seen as housing delivery enablers.
The conference brought together leading experts across government, local authorities, homebuilders, housing associations, institutional investors and the financial community, to discuss key issues including: • planning reforms • the role of councils as housing enablers • the potential for direct commissioning • attracting more institutional investment into the private sector rented market • how devolution and the rise of city regions may improve housing delivery • how social housing providers can achieve efficiencies to adapt to the post-Budget environment
The conference featured case studies exploring a number of innovative housing delivery models recently announced. Local Partnerships provides a practical and objective approach to increasing housing supply: we can help you unlock the potential in your area.
