This LGR webinar explored key lessons from Local Government Reorganisation in Surrey. Pedro Wrobel, Joint Chief Executive of Guildford and Waverley Borough Councils, shared practical insights from their role as a Surrey pathfinder, offering an overview of the accelerated timeline and the three phases of LGR from initial programme setup to transition and future planning. He reflected on the challenges and opportunities of reform, stressing the value of transparent communication, staff support, cultural alignment, and making use of external expertise. His overarching advice: ask questions early, stay adaptable, and build strong relationships to navigate uncertainty effectively.

The Council Housebuilding Support Service (CHoSS), funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) as part of the Government’s ambition to build 1.5 million homes, is being delivered by the Local Government Association and Local Partnerships.
Local authorities had been asked whether they had included climate as a corporate risk and whether their services and assets were prepared for extreme weather becoming the new normal. The reality of climate change was no longer distant; it had already arrived.
