How PFI can build communities – and how we’re spreading best practice
Local Partnerships was pleased to be invited to a meeting of the Housing Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Providers’ Group on Friday 11 September. Held in the new community centre built as part of the Myatts Field Housing PFI contract, it was a great opportunity to hear from a number of PFI providers about the challenges they faced delivering social housing. The event showcased many of the fantastic community initiatives and stakeholder engagement they were undertaking.
How PFI can build communities
Alastair Watson, Local Partnerships’ Corporate Director, provided the meeting with an update on the wide range of PFI operational savings work that Local Partnerships is performing for public sector clients in the housing sector and elsewhere. Among the topics that provoked interesting discussions were the impact of welfare changes, redesigning service performance indicators, and alternative approaches to value testing in PFI projects.
Alastair has been working with colleagues to develop a practical, one-day course costing £250 to spread best practice and update public sector contract managers on methods to realise savings and efficiencies from their operational PFI contracts. Local authorities are facing a second major cut in funding over the next five years. Public sector managers are faced with the need to secure savings and efficiencies from their operational PFI contracts whilst preserving service delivery.
