EXPLORE Factor Maps
The Factor Maps show factors which are important for influencing the Outcome Measures. The factor maps are designed to be used in workshops to help interdisciplinary and interdepartmental groups develop interventions to improve the Outcome Measures.
The Factor Maps present factors in a visually digestible, coherent hierarchy. Factors are organised into high-level groups, and then expanded into sub-factors. The presentation is the same across the Explore domains to make them easier to absorb. In a workshop this prevents participants having to understand a new format for each domain.
The Factor Maps are offered online as part of the Facilitation Pack* or can be viewed as printable pdfs by clicking the buttons below.
In the Facilitation Pack they are also available in printable and online whiteboard format. They have a glossary of explanations for each node (which is hyperlinked in the whiteboard format). There is further guidance on using the Factor Maps in the Facilitation Pack Miro board.
The Factor Maps are a starting point for conversation. They are not specific to each Local Authority; they are not definitive and do not contain every relevant factor. See facilitation pack for guidance about adapting them if you wish to.
*To help us understand how the Facilitation Pack is being used, we are keeping a record of access to the Miro board. Please email HWNSTool-Project@naturalengland.org.uk and we will provide you with the password.
Health and Wellbeing Factor Map
The Health and Wellbeing Factor Map identifies the factors that matter most for improving health and wellbeing outcomes in your local area.
The factors are organised into high-level groups, and then expanded into sub-factors, all with factor definitions.
All three Factor Maps for Health and Wellbeing, Nature and Sustainability should be used together to support more integrated decision-making in developing strategic and local plans. They will help identify areas for trade-offs, multiple benefits, and dependencies for improving outcomes across health, wellbeing, nature and sustainability. To be most effective the Factor Maps should be used as part of a facilitated workshop conversation based around the wider EXPLORE components.
