National infrastructure conference 28 June 2016
“Infrastructure boils down to the stuff of everyday life… so we have to start getting that right” Lord Adonis – Chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission – Modern Gov magazine – March Addition.
With public capital investment of over £100 billion committed to 2020-2021, part of a £483 billion project Pipeline, the National Infrastructure Delivery Plan is without doubt one of the major components of current government policy.
The newly formed National Infrastructure Commission and Infrastructure Projects Authority have already introduced new policy, updated research and a number of consultations yet the size and scope of some of the 319 projects and 283 programmes still raise serious issues such as skills shortages, financing, a lack of innovation and planning, and questions around the actual benefits for economic growth.
On June 28th a select delegation made up of Local Government (and their LEP partners), Central Government and the Private Sector (covering key sector such as finance, utilities, transport, and construction) will be gathering in London to discuss these plans. Featuring leading speakers such as Lord Andrew Adonis (Chairman, NIC), Stephen Dance (Head of Infrastructure Delivery, IPA), and Duncan Powell (Programme Director, Local Partnerships) this is the only opportunity for all the stakeholders involved to meet and highlight their position to help develop this new plan moving forward.
Duncan Powell, Local Partnerships’ Infrastructure Programme Director, will speak at a morning session alongside Sue Scane, Director for Environment and Economy, Oxfordshire County Council and Richard Harrington, Chief Executive of Buckinghamshire Thames Valley LEP on funding localised infrastructure projects.
Beyond major projects, financing programmes at local levels can be long-drawn, complex and difficult to manage. This panel will discuss how LEPs and local authorities should be making the most of their areas to attract inward investment.
Other sessions of the conference will highlight:
- The Northern Powerhouse and how regional infrastructure will promote economic growth
- Investing in transport to bring our country together
- Developing skills vital to our economy
- The mixed model approach to funding and finance, and the approach moving forward
- Sustainability, security and delivery – building the right infrastructure for the future
