Urban systems and public service delivery in austerity Britain
On 12 April, a seminar was hosted in City Hall Cardiff to consider the proposed Urban Observatory for Cardiff.
The event was designed to develop upon previous work produced for the Foresight project, and to integrate with the Urban Transformations (UT) programme, with a view to creating an ongoing platform across urban futures-focused universities.
Jane Forshaw was asked to present the opportunities for green growth on the back of energy infrastructure and efficiency. In essence, this is the realisation of the “local power for local people” concept, with a view to investigating what intelligence and data need to be gathered and modelled in order to secure these outcomes. Jane joined speakers from Cardiff University, the Valley’s Regional Park and New Economy.
An immediate outcome of the seminar was the opportunity to join up thinking on where the energy sources could come from for an electrified metro system. This will be an ambitious infrastructure project to provide fast and efficient public transport connecting Cardiff and the Valleys, helping to transform the economy of south east Wales.
