Supporting the rollout of Solar Together in South East Wales
Local Partnerships, as part of our role in supporting the Welsh Government Energy Service, is pleased to have supported the successful launch of Solar Together in South East Wales. Solar Together is a group buying renewable energy initiative, that could benefit over 100,000 households across the region.
The initiative offers residents access to competitively priced, vetted providers of solar panels, battery storage and EV home charging solutions through a community-led framework. It empowers households to make informed decisions on renewable energy, as well as supporting local authorities in meeting their climate commitments and delivering tangible benefits for communities.
Director, Jane Forshaw, supported Cardiff Council and Cardiff Capital Region in coordinating a multi-authority working group. Seven local authorities (Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Newport, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan) have come together to deliver the first regional rollout of the programme in Wales.
Jane supported the coordination of key procurement milestones, including the publication of the Prior Information Notice (PIN) and maintained momentum to enable the simultaneous signing of contract documents across all seven councils.
Jane said: “This initiative is born from the hugely valuable Local Area Energy Plan process, initiated by Welsh Government, which shows the scale of the decarb challenge for the housing stock.
This is a great example of place based collaboration and shows the value and scale of impact achievable from coordinated regional action.
We’re proud to have supported the process and look forward to continuing with the rest of Wales.
