Local Partnerships supports Prisoners Building Homes in winning major PropTech funding to scale nationally
Local Partnerships is proud to have played a pivotal role in supporting the Prisoners Building Homes (PBH) programme as it grows from a South West England pilot into a national initiative to build houses and reduce reoffending.
PBH, a cross-government programme enabling prisoners and ex-offenders to build low carbon modular homes, has been awarded £100,000 through the Government’s PropTech Innovation Challenge 2025. The funding will enable the development of an AI Pre-Development Tool, created in partnership with LANDCLAN and Microsoft, to speed up and reduce the cost of identifying and preparing housing sites. The tool is scheduled to launch in February 2026.
Michael O’Doherty, programme lead for PBH at Local Partnerships, said: “This programme shows the power of innovation to deliver social change. “By creating a pathway from prison to skilled employment, PBH reduces reoffending and helps meet urgent housing needs. “Local Partnerships is proud to have supported PBH’s governance and strategy, enabling it to scale nationally and win this PropTech funding award.”
This technological breakthrough will allow PBH to work with more local authorities and landowners across the country. It will accelerate housing delivery and support the rehabilitation of prisoners by providing valuable construction skills that lower reoffending rates.
