Local Partnerships supports major milestone for Wales’ deposit return scheme

Local Partnerships has played a key role in supporting the Welsh Government as it progresses its deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers, culminating in the recent appointment Exchange for Change as the Deposit Management Organisation (DMO) in Wales.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in the implementation of major circular economy reforms and reflects the strength of collaboration between government and delivery partners.

Throughout the development process, Local Partnerships has worked closely with Welsh Government colleagues, providing specialist commercial and circular economy expertise to help shape solutions, manage complex delivery considerations and support decision-making. The work forms part of the organisation’s wider commitment to helping public sector partners deliver ambitious environmental and economic outcomes.

The appointment of the DMO represents an important step forward in establishing the structures and capabilities needed to support future circular economy initiatives. Local Partnerships has been proud to contribute its knowledge and experience throughout this journey, drawing on expertise from across its circular economy, zero waste and commercial teams to help ensure a robust and effective approach.

The collaboration also highlights the value of partnership working between governments and specialist delivery organisations. By combining policy ambition with practical delivery expertise, partners have been able to accelerate progress and build strong foundations for future environmental programmes that will benefit communities and businesses across Wales.
