The European Commission, in partnership with the UN Environment Finance Initiative, recently hosted a webinar exploring ‘Renovation of Public Buildings in Europe’. Full details of contributing presenters and organisations are shown below.
Speakers presented innovative ways in which energy efficiency is, and can be, promoted and achieved across organisations. Miguel Casas drew conclusions from a recent study on innovative financing mechanisms for energy efficiency. Erika Honnay examined RenoWatt, an organisation in Belgium which supports authorities to undertake energy renovation of their buildings. Céline Tougeron presented the funding opportunities available under the EU programme Horizon 2020 to renovate public buildings. Robert McKinnon explained how a Local Partnerships’ Re:fit programme has set up a framework contract to simplify public procurement of energy performance contracts in the UK to support the public sector to implement energy efficiency and local energy generation measures.
Local Partnerships’ RE:FIT programme has supported councils across the UK to improve energy efficiency. For example, Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) has delivered an energy programme that has resulted in more than £20 million in energy generation and energy efficiency projects in Cambridgeshire’s schools and property assets. In addition, the projects will save over £1.775 million per year and eliminate the release of over 8,400 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
Representatives were: Miguel Casas from Energinvest; Erika Honnay from GRE-Liège (the Economic Development Group for Liège); Céline Tougeron from the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME); and Robert McKinnon from Local Partnerships.
