Pipeline or pipe dream? Opportunity at LGA conference – teach in
LGA conference 2018
An integral part of overcoming the current housing challenge is for councils to build a pipeline of future housing sites to ensure homes get built. Planning Authorities have a responsibility to do all they can to meet their housing requirements and surplus public land has an important contribution to make.
Join us at stand C9 on Wednesday 4 July at11.10am for a 15 minute teach in for a special session: Pipeline or Pipedream?Unleashing the potential of surplus council land. This teach in will illustrate an effective approach to identifying a phased pipeline which will prove attractive to housebuilders and which can help to deliver Council’s wider objectives.
Councils are continually seeking to use their land assets more effectively in order to enable housing delivery and support wider economic objectives. Consequently, both land disposals and acquisitions are becoming more widely used to accelerate housing growth and ensure a pipeline of future housing sites. This session will explore:
How to identify a pipeline of suitable housing sites; what does this mean in practice?
Selecting sites with the greatest prospect of being delivered; how can councils identify a prioritised and phased pipeline of sites in the short, medium and long term?
Strategies for maximising the value of the council asset; how can council’s get the most from their assets and what development and delivery options need to be considered?
This session will demonstrate a useful methodology, for quickly and effectively undertaking asset reviews to identify sites suitable for housing development. Linda will share a tried and tested mechanism, similar to that adopted by commercial house builders, for identifying a prioritised pipeline of sites which have the best chance of being delivered.
