Making the case for investing in homelessness prevention
New Report, Tool and Webinar on “Making the case for investing in homelessness prevention”
Local Partnerships are proud to present our newest report and free tool. We worked with the LGA and Leeds and Cornwall councils during 2022 to understand what approaches have worked in homelessness prevention, how much they cost, costs that can have been avoided, and some of the benefits accrued by their implementation. From this, we produced a report and some simple cost benefit models which are free to use on our website, find them here.
The webinar, chaired by Cllr David Renard, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, will explain these in further detail. Peter Shovlin, Head of Housing Options at Leeds and Melanie Brain, Head of Housing Options at Cornwall will share how they’ve used it and how you can adopt their approach. Jenny Coombs, Programme Director at Local Partnerships, will also be speaking.
Some of the main findings of the report are:
Intervention is effective, both in human terms, and for the public purse
Relatively small amounts of council investment can lead to significant benefits for the public purse
Projects offering wrap around services as well as housing support, and with a person-centred approach, can be particularly effective
Joint commissioning is a critical part of this approach
