Greenhouse Gas Accounting Tool at the LGA Conference Innovation Zone
LGA Conference Innovation Zone
We are delighted to announce that we have been selected to present a session on our Greenhouse Gas Accounting Tool at the LGA Conference’s Innovation Zone on 5 July. We would like to invite you to come along to our 3.25pm – 4.10pm slot in the zone to learn more about the tool, where we will present with our partner Cambridgeshire County Council.
Set within the wider conference, the Innovation Zone offers a lively and interactive space to share cutting edge work with delegates. It is a vibrant and creative space where local authorities and wider partners of the sector showcase their new ideas for tackling the issues facing local government.
The Greenhouse Gas Accounting Tool was developed by us, working with the LGA, to provide a straightforward and consistent approach for councils seeking to calculate their own carbon baseline. While local authority reporting on emissions is currently voluntary, consistent and easy calculation of an annual carbon baseline is an important part of managing the carbon in our organisations. The tool produces summary tables and charts to help local authorities understand their most significant sources of emissions, which can then be used to prioritise actions to reduce carbon emissions.
Earlier this year, we added a Waste Emissions Calculator, developed by Cambridgeshire County Council and UCL, to help local authorities understand carbon emissions from their waste management and treatment operations. These emissions fall within a local authority’s Scope 3 emissions, and often contribute significantly to its carbon footprint.
On the panel will be:
Huw Russell, Director – Climate, Local Partnerships
Emily Bolton, Climate Crisis Strategy Manager, Cambridgeshire County Council
The tool is freely available to use on our website, and we will be at stand P22 at the LGA Conference if you would like to have a further discussion about it.
