The Procurement Act is here

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the Procurement Act Expo. It was an event designed to shed light on the imminent changes in procurement and equip attendees with the knowledge and tools to adapt and thrive in this evolving landscape.

The discussions at the Expo made it clear: the era of debate is over; the Procurement Act is here, promising significant changes and an exciting future for both buyers and suppliers in this sector.

It’s evident that the Procurement Act heralds a new era of public procurement – one characterised by fresh rules, innovative approaches, and a renewed commitment to transparency and fairness.

For local authorities, understanding the impending changes and strategising on how to adapt to them are vital for a smooth transition.

Here are my key takeaways for local authorities getting ready for the procurement legal reforms:

  1. Setting the Pace for Transformation: It’s clear that agility and strategic planning will be our greatest assets in adapting to the changes effectively. We must determine the pace at which we embrace transformation, ensuring we remain proactive rather than reactive.
  1. Prioritising Stakeholder Engagement: Building strong relationships , especially with end users, is vital. It supports reform changes requiring close monitoring of contract performance and the potential for debarment.
  2. Embracing Available Support: Local authorities are encouraged to leverage available resources! Explore how Local Partnerships commercial team can provide valuable support tailored to your needs.
