Grant Peisley

Grant Peisley joined Local Partnerships part-time in March 2024 to work on the Ynni Cymru programme.

Since 2012, he has focused on developing community-owned renewable energy companies and projects. Ynni Cymru aligns with his experience, collaborating with the Welsh Government to expand locally-owned renewable energy generation across Wales. This initiative ensures that the benefits of renewable energy are retained locally and positions Wales as a leader in smart local energy projects.

Grant is the Founding Director of Datblygiadau Egni Gwledig (DEG), a multi-award-winning social enterprise. Under his leadership, DEG has successfully supported community-led action across northwest Wales, including the Cyd Ynni consortium, which develops new renewable energy projects, and GwyrddNi, a community-based climate action movement uniting five areas of Gwynedd to tackle climate change locally.

He also serves as a founder and volunteer director for YnNi Teg and YnNi Newydd, social enterprises delivering community-owned renewable energy projects. For example, YnNi Teg, a pan-Wales developer of community-owned clean energy infrastructure, collaborates with local organisations to empower communities to take greater control of their energy, fostering a more resilient Wales. They operate a community wind turbine and solar farm in Carmarthenshire, generating clean energy and revenue for local initiatives.

In addition to his practical work, Grant contributes to thought leadership in the sector. He co-authored the chapter “Pride is the key: the built environment, social housing and fuel poverty” in Child Poverty in Wales (University of Wales Press, 2023), and the article “Enhancing community involvement in low-carbon projects” for the Low Carbon Energy and Environment Research (LCEE) programme in 2023.

Originally from Australia, Grant has become fluent in Welsh to fully engage in Welsh society. He holds a psychology degree, a PgDip in Executive Management, ILM7 Strategic Leadership Certificate, and is a fellow of the Institute of Leadership.
