Would you like to help shape the future of Local Authority climate action?
Local Authority Climate Service from the Met Office
The Met Office is working with the University of Leeds to understand how the Local Authority sector is making use of the recently launched Local Authority Climate Service (LACS), how this information is used by LAs in decision-making/ planning and communicated to stakeholders/ communities/ residents.
The task is being led by two members of academic staff at the University of Leeds, Susanne Lorenz and Peter Walton, both of whom have extensive experience in working with and for Local Authorities on climate adaptation, and is due for completion by the end of March 2025.
One of the main aims of the project is to develop leading-edge case studies of how the LACS is being used by LAs to address real-world challenges and showcase these to the wider community of LAs. It therefore provides LAs an opportunity to gain additional high-profile exposure for their work at national scale. The project will also inform the future development of the LACS and offers LAs a chance to influence and shape its future direction.
We would like to conduct (online only) interviews with key actors working for Local Authorities and if you would be happy to be involved in this project, please could you email Susi on s.lorenz@leeds.ac.uk
Local Partnerships has collaborated with the Met Office as LACS has developed to ensure that it aligns with the Climate Adaptation Toolkit for Local Authorities. You can find a short video explaining how they link here.
