Updated: Greenhouse Gas Accounting Tool and Waste Emissions Calculator

Now’s the time to take another look.

Local Partnerships is pleased to announce updates to our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting Tool and Waste Emissions Calculator.

Developed in collaboration with the Local Government Association (LGA) and shaped by ongoing engagement with local authority users, these tools have been refined to meet the changing needs of the sector.

With smarter functionality, clearer visuals and the most up-to-date emissions data, both tools are now more effective and easier to use than ever before.

As two of our most widely used resources, the GHG Accounting Tool and Waste Emissions Calculator continue to support public sector organisations in building a clear and consistent picture of their environmental impact. If you haven’t used them in a while, now’s the time to explore what’s new.

How Local Partnerships and the GHG Accounting Tool help local authorities tackle climate challenges

At Local Partnerships, we support the public sector to meet rising service demands in the face of shrinking budgets. We understand the pressure local authorities are under, managing operational priorities, addressing environmental responsibilities and delivering frontline services with limited resources.

That’s where our team can help.

We bring a unique mix of public and private sector expertise, providing practical, hands-on support that fits the needs of each organisation. Rather than offering advice from afar, we work alongside local teams, offering capacity and capability where it’s most needed.

The new release includes improvements driven by user feedback and reflects the most recent guidance from government.

More than a spreadsheet: A practical tool for smarter reporting

The GHG tool is designed to make emissions reporting more straightforward and more useful. It helps local authorities:

  • Streamline the reporting process, reducing administrative burden
  • Understand emissions data with greater clarity, thanks to improved layouts and graphical outputs
  • Enable collaboration across departments through shared access and guidance built into the tool
  • Support benchmarking across the sector via LG Inform, identifying trends and good practice

Whether you’re building a baseline or reviewing existing figures, the tool offers a structured and efficient approach to tracking your organisation’s emissions.

The Waste Emissions Calculator

Alongside the GHG tool, the Waste Emissions Calculator provides detailed insights into emissions from waste services. Developed in partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council and UCL, it complements your emissions reporting and offers a deeper view into waste-related impacts.

Designed with the sector, for the sector

At the heart of these tools is our experienced climate team, specialists who understand local government, energy, data and delivery. We work with councils to build tools that not only meet reporting needs but also support strategic planning and cross-organisational engagement.

Whether it’s through carbon accounting, adaptation planning, procurement support or financial modelling, we aim to make the process easier and more effective for public sector teams.
