WEBINAR REPLAY : Using mapping tools to help councils make decisions
In a time where councils are asked to deliver more whilst budgets are being squeezed, the effective use of data helps key decision makers to allocate resources with maximum impact.
Maps provide a uniquely intuitive tool to visualise layers of complex data into key insights into local areas of focus. Combining council data with publicly available data allows for powerful local analysis of aspects as wide ranging as flood risk, traffic congestion, localised medical needs or access to green space.
Councils recognise the benefits of working with data and routinely highlight geospatial data mapping as a key capability they would like to improve. Whilst maps themselves might be easy to understand, developing them requires specific technical skills and experience which is in short supply.
This webinar will demonstrate on a practical level how a map-based analysis can be developed using free tools and datasets.
Using our recent work with waste data as an example, the Local Partnerships Data Analytics team will show how geospatial mapping can be used effectively, and will outline a step-by-step approach to complete an effective mapping analysis.
The webinar will cover:how mapping tools can improve decision making in the design and delivery of council services what data, tools and inputs are required to develop an effective mapping tool how users practically use a recent mapping tool we developed to get the insight they need other use cases where similar mapping approaches could support councils
