Welsh Government and local authorities achieve milestone: largest-ever collaborative procurement of electric vehicles delivers £660k savings
Welsh Government, working with Welsh local authorities, has successfully concluded the first ever collaborative procurement on this scale, for electric vehicles. The procurement covered 241 vehicles and will save the public purse over £660k.
Ambition to decarbonise the public sector is high in Wales, and although local authorities are keen to transition to cost effective Electric Vehicles (EVs), when acting individually their relatively small orders were often being ignored in the marketplace.
This first of a kind, collaborative procurement was won by the award winning Welsh company Fleet-EV and the initiative has provided certainty and cheaper costs.
I am pleased to see local authorities leading the way on decarbonising their fleet whilst also driving down costs. It is essential we collaborate and use our existing funding and procurement levers in a more innovative and cooperative way to achieve net zero. This is a really good example of working together to achieve more
Rebecca Evans MS, Minister for Finance and local Government
